October Book Motel
When. First full week in June
Where to stay. Probably any place you can get in. The only place I constantly
hear nasty things about is the Mohawk at the south end. Some are recommended
by Americade and you can call the Chamber of Commerce. If noise bothers you
ask for a room a little further from the street.
January Register and Book Tours Keep a copy of email confirmation or make
a duplicate if mailing in. When you receive actual registration compare to your copy.
This would be the time to correct any mistakes. If you wait until you get there
they will sic Ginny on you.
If arriving Monday this is a good time to pick up your package at the Holiday Inn.
Parking in rear.
You may have to wait in line for an hour but you might as well bite the bullet now
it wont get any better the next day. I will say though I got in in about 10 minutes at 4pm.
It is also a good time to find your bike dealership in case of mechanical problems.
Everybody seems to like Georges for dinner and 5-6:30 is the early bird special.
Later is much busier. Prime rib and great salad bar. Be sure to try their espresso.
Tuesday If you have any guided tours be early. If there is food involved these
Americaders have never missed a meal and don't mind showing up early so
they don't miss a bite.
Wednesday Seems to be rain day. You must bring clothing for every condition
and tours go rain or shine. Cloudy skies will keep it warmer.
Thursday This is the day that every speeder and noisy bike sponsors the
Policeman's Ball. They will look up pipes with a flash light and watch those helmets too.
They will be looking for DOT approval.
Friday. This is the day the town gets little crowded as more locals come in.
Avoid Canada street if that bothers you. If it is warm out -80f- and clear skies
it will still get very chilly at night.
Where to eat. Some mediocre places (the Lobster Pot comes to mind) but mostly
good. I keep trying and finding new ones. Bolton's landing has three close together.
We tried and liked the Market Place. Nice little Antique store 1 block south. A little
farther out is Casey's North. They supplied the food for the Gondola ride and it was
very good, chicken and ribs. In town Georges is always good as well as the Tamarack Inn.
The Prospect Diner is good but the HoJO has a new chef and breakfast was good
as well as Holiday Inn.
Notes: Close to zero alcohol DWI tolerance although I didn't see any enforcement
or anybody too worried about it.

I did not intentionally take these two pictures of the capitals and place them juxtaposed to each other
to mean anything other than I visited both places. It is quite striking though to see one
with children playing and one with a police car and fences.

October Book Motel
When. First full week in June
Where to stay. Probably any place you can get in. The only place I constantly
hear nasty things about is the Mohawk at the south end. Some are recommended
by Americade and you can call the Chamber of Commerce. If noise bothers you
ask for a room a little further from the street.
January Register and Book Tours Keep a copy of email confirmation or make
a duplicate if mailing in. When you receive actual registration compare to your copy.
This would be the time to correct any mistakes. If you wait until you get there
they will sic Ginny on you.
If arriving Monday this is a good time to pick up your package at the Holiday Inn.
Parking in rear.
You may have to wait in line for an hour but you might as well bite the bullet now
it wont get any better the next day. I will say though I got in in about 10 minutes at 4pm.
It is also a good time to find your bike dealership in case of mechanical problems.
Everybody seems to like Georges for dinner and 5-6:30 is the early bird special.
Later is much busier. Prime rib and great salad bar. Be sure to try their espresso.
Tuesday If you have any guided tours be early. If there is food involved these
Americaders have never missed a meal and don't mind showing up early so
they don't miss a bite.
Wednesday Seems to be rain day. You must bring clothing for every condition
and tours go rain or shine. Cloudy skies will keep it warmer.
Thursday This is the day that every speeder and noisy bike sponsors the
Policeman's Ball. They will look up pipes with a flash light and watch those helmets too.
They will be looking for DOT approval.
Friday. This is the day the town gets little crowded as more locals come in.
Avoid Canada street if that bothers you. If it is warm out -80f- and clear skies
it will still get very chilly at night.
Where to eat. Some mediocre places (the Lobster Pot comes to mind) but mostly
good. I keep trying and finding new ones. Bolton's landing has three close together.
We tried and liked the Market Place. Nice little Antique store 1 block south. A little
farther out is Casey's North. They supplied the food for the Gondola ride and it was
very good, chicken and ribs. In town Georges is always good as well as the Tamarack Inn.
The Prospect Diner is good but the HoJO has a new chef and breakfast was good
as well as Holiday Inn.
Notes: Close to zero alcohol DWI tolerance although I didn't see any enforcement
or anybody too worried about it.
