Everyday I receive mail asking questions. These are some of them.
Q-How will you know how to rebuild my seat
A-We like to have you tell us the problem you are experiencing. This is so we can give the personal attention you are looking for.
Unless the foam has hardened as we occasional see every uncomfortable seat has the same problem. That is the base is incorrectly shaped. The convex shape of the base is putting all the pressure on your tail bone. 2-3" of foam is not going to correct this. We must start from the ground up by making the base tractor seat shaped and removing any lumps. Hey why not send me a picture.
Q-Can you make the pillion comfortable for my passenger
A- We can widen the pillion to 13" and correct the shape of the base. Spreading the weight over a large area will make the most comfortable seat.
Q- What is better soft or firm foam.
A- The less foam used the firmer it must be. All foam used in cushioning is open cell and it will lose its bounce over the course of a long ride. We use a firm foundation with soft on top to properly disperse the weight and then finally give endurance.
Q- How long will it take.
A- We try to keep shop time down to 1 week. Please mention if time is important so we can work around holidays etc.. Shipping should be less than 1 week each way. Courier is faster than postal.
Q- Do make or sell backrests A- No But you can find them here. Pro-tac
Q-Do you make deflectors for other models.
A-Until I buy another model and have the hours to come up with designs for other models, the answer is no. You can take my ideas and convert them though
Q- How much A-The price to do a complete two-up seat redo is going to be about $750 CDN dollars or approx $500 plus shipping both ways. Some things will cost more like a valance, studs, conchos, fringe etc. How that works... We quote the job in CDN dollars. When we finish the job I post a picture of the finished work and after you accept we take your credit card# and run it through at CDN dollars. The job is probably going to be about $500 CDN plus shipping depending on if you prepay to send it back when you send the seat. Your US discount is calculated on your credit card.
Q-Have you ever rebuilt a seat on a " specific bike"
A- Just to recap Just to recap Saddle building strategy.: Spread the weight over the largest area possible. The under lying pan shape is going to determine your long term comfort level. When possible I sit on the pan to examine for pressure points, it should be comfortable at this point if only for a short time. It is like wall paper, you cant hide any sins with the paper. Likewise you cant hide and lumps with foam. Work out your weight into square inches of usable seating area. E.g. 100 sq. inches of area into 300lbs weight is equal to 3 lb. per sq. inch. That's a lot of pressure. All the work we do is custom.
Q-I am looking for some information on the gel
(dry
pads...do you sell them??
A-I can only tell you my personal experience from using gel. It has its uses but they are limited. Remember that problems start from the bottom up. I have a three different occasions to use gel and three different but important results.
Good result: On an aluminum shell with no padding but the 1\2 gel. The plus side was that the gel is bottomless. You can put you thumb into it and will not find bottom. This is the best use for gel.
No difference: Combined with padding at the top of the foam. This was on my own seat. The gel is denser than the foam it is the last to give. It was probably just taking up space and adds a lot of weight. In all fairness I left it in but moved it to the bottom.
Indifferent result: On a customers car seat. He had physical problems and as a last resort we added some gel. He seemed to think it helped but complained about the heat even on a cloth seat. The gel absorbs heat like a liquid. Remember the beer on ice rather than a fridge theory.
You can by gel at a medical supply house. My opinion...reread my web site and I think you will the answer to you discomfort problems. Remember they all start at the base and are transferred up.
Q-What is the difference between closed cell and open cell.
A- http://www.foam-tech.comThis is all I have for now
Q-Do you make deflectors for other models.
A-Until I buy another model and have the hours to come up with designs for other models, the answer is no. You can take my ideas and convert them though
